To prepare little learners for a successful life ahead on a solid foundation of physical education, functional skills and faith-based values.
We recognize the tremendous benefits of physical activity — from simple motion to personal swim instruction — in building young learners’ confidence and coordination.
We show love and care for each student, seeing all as unique and beautiful children of God.
We value respect, responsibility, patience and honesty — a reflection of the values our community shares.
We enhance physical and academic education with a range of tools, resources and activities to accommodate individual learning types.
We are a family made of many families, all supporting each other and contributing together to the world around us.
Meet Vicki May, the new director of Mudbug Academy. A resident of Ascension Parish, and veteran kindergarten teacher—first at Dutchtown Primary, then Spanish Lake Primary—Vicki is invested in the education and well-being of her community’s youth. After having five children of her own, Vicki became a formal educator with a focus on early childhood development. Receiving a Master Degree of Arts in Education from Louisiana State University, and her National Board Certification in Early Childhood, Vicki believes that a strong foundation in the early years is essential to a child becoming a successful lifelong learner.
“I am honored to help lead the Mudbug Academy and its mission of making young children stronger from the start. I believe there is no better way to begin a child’s journey through education than with authentic, faith-based learning.”
Cathy Ragusa discovered her love of early childhood education when she began teaching at Most Blessed Sacrament Preschool while her own two children were enrolled there. She attended Louisiana State University and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Family, Child, and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. She has taught kindergarten in Ascension Parish for over 17 years, first at St. Amant Primary, and then at Spanish Lake Primary. “I believe that an enriched, faith based environment benefits young children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. I am so excited to be a part of making this happen at Mudbug Academy!”
